Smash Room VR Tactics Tournament Rules

Join us on Saturday, 26 September 2026, for a full day of tactical VR action at Smash Room, Vaasa. Gather your friends, build your squad and compete against the best teams for great prizes and bragging rights.
Tournament Format
- 10 teams
- 5 vs 5 gameplay
- Up to 7 registered players per team (2 substitutes)
- Two groups of five teams
- Every team is guaranteed at least 4 matches
- Top 2 teams from each group advance to the semifinals
- Bronze match and Grand Final are played as Best of 3 maps
Match Rules
- One map per group-stage and semifinal match
- First team to win 13 rounds wins the match
- No overtime

Practice Sessions
All registered teams can practice on Mondays and Tuesdays before the tournament for only €10 per player per hour.

VR 5 vs 5 Tournament Rules
Team Composition
– Matches are played 5 vs 5.
– Each registered team may have up to 7 players (5 starting players and 2 substitutes).
– A player may only be registered for one team and cannot compete for multiple teams during the tournament.
Any changes to the team roster before the tournament must be approved by the tournament organisers.
Match Format
– Matches are played in Team Deathmatch mode.
– Each round ends when one team has been completely eliminated.
– The team with at least one player still alive at the end of the round wins that round and earns one point.
– The first team to win 13 rounds wins the match.
– All matches, except the Bronze Match and Grand Final, are played as a single map (first to 13 rounds).
– The Bronze Match and Grand Final are played as a Best-of-3 maps series. Each team selects one map.
– If the score is 1–1 after the first two maps, a third and deciding map will be played.
– The deciding map will be selected by the tournament organisers (or another method announced before the tournament begins).
Sportsmanship
– Fair play is expected from all players.
– This tournament is organised to be a fun and competitive event. – Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated.
Eliminated Players
– Once eliminated, players must remain silent.
– Eliminated players may not reveal the location of opponents or provide any tactical information to teammates.
– Violation of this rule will result in a 2-round point deduction for the offending team.
– No Wall Hacking / Walking Through Objects
– Players must stay within the intended game boundaries.
– Deliberately walking through walls, obstacles or objects (“wall – hacking”) is strictly prohibited.
– Teams caught using this exploit will receive a 2-round point deduction.
– Looking Outside the VR Headset
– Players may not lift or look underneath their VR headset to gain an unfair advantage.
– Any player caught looking outside the headset will result in their team receiving a 2-round point deduction.
Between Rounds
– Both teams will be given 20 seconds to discuss tactics before the next round begins.
Referees
– Referees will be present inside the VR arena throughout the tournament.
– They will monitor gameplay, enforce the rules and handle any issues.
– All referee decisions are final, including rulings regarding cheating, penalties and disputes.
Match Statistics
– Tournament organisers will record: Team scores
– Individual player kills
– Individual player deaths.
Hygiene
– All face masks will be disinfected between players.
Server Crash / Headset Crash
– If the game server or a headset crashes during a match, the current score will be recorded, and the match will resume from that score once the issue has been resolved.
– If a controller battery runs out during a match, the current round will be cancelled and replayed.
Substitute Players
– Teams may change their lineup up until the match officially starts.
– Once a match has begun: Substitute players cannot be changed or replaced during the match.
– Exceptions will only be made in genuine emergencies, such as illness, injury, or another medical situation that prevents a player from continuing.
– Tournament officials will make the final decision regarding any exception.
Safety Inside the VR Arena
– For everyone’s safety, the following rules apply at all times:
– Running is strictly prohibited.
– Players may crouch during gameplay.
– Players may not kneel with one or both knees on the floor.
– Players may not lie down on the ground.
– Always remain aware of your surroundings and follow staff instructions.
– Failure to follow these safety rules may result in a warning or removal from the match if player safety is compromised.
Respect
– Treat opponents, referees and organisers with respect at all times.
– Unsportsmanlike behaviour may result in penalties or disqualification at the organisers’ discretion.
Media & Broadcasting
– Tournament matches may be live streamed or recorded on platforms such as Discord, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, or similar services.
– Video and audio may include gameplay, live camera footage from the arena, players, spectators, referees, and in-game headset views.
– Photos and videos may also be taken during the event for promotional and marketing purposes.
– By participating in the tournament, all players agree that their image, voice and gameplay may appear in live broadcasts, recordings, photographs and promotional material without additional compensation.

Each team plays every other team in its group once. Every team receives four group-stage matches.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable sports clothing suitable for movement:
Indoor sports shoes (required)
Shorts or comfortable sports trousers
T-shirt or other lightweight sports clothing
You will get warm during matches, so we recommend dressing accordingly.

How long before my match should I arrive?
Please arrive 30 minutes before your estimated match time.
At least five (5) players from your team must be present and ready to play before the match begins.

Substitute Players

Parking
Free parking is available around the building wherever there is a legal parking space and your vehicle fits safely.
Please do not park directly in front of the main entrance, as this area must remain clear for access and deliveries.

Toilets & Accessibility
The Smash Room has:
– Three customer toilets.
– One accessible toilet for wheelchair users.
Our venue also has accessible entrances. If you are arriving with a wheelchair or require step-free access, please let us know in advance or speak to our bar staff upon arrival. We will gladly open the appropriate entrance for you.

Items found at the venue will be kept in our Lost & Found for one (1) week after the tournament.
